What's a .paf file extension

Question: .zip file verses a .paf file. I am using a Personal Ancestral File program version 5.2.18.0, for my family history files. My question is: Which is the most accurate or exact way to back up these files? Is it by using a .zip file or creating a back up by copy and pasting the file to other storage medium?

Answer: Hello and thanks for the question Merrill. Well a .paf file as im sure you know is a file extension related to genealogy software while a .zip file is generic and can be used by any software.

So the question then becomes... are you planning on transferring the data to another format or will you continue to use it within the current program. What software will you use to view the files in the future? Since the files are not that large i may save it both as a .paf and a .zip assuming the system allows you to do that.

Its amazing the genealogy software that is available today isnt it. My Grandmother put in hundreds of hours logging our family history only to give it to a museum for reference and them to never give it back. Long story.

Hope this has helped you out, if not just shoot me another email. Thanks Mike WhatsAFile.com

Before you try anything you should think about doing a free scan for .paf related registry errors. This will ensure your computer is ready to precede.
