What's a .docx file extension

Question: Hello my name is Sharon I run the help desk for ACnS Industrial Storage. My new boss sent me a file called acns print_ready.docx its a form that we have our customers sign. This is the new version from corporate the 2009 form, and i cant print this thing to save my life.

Answer: Welcome to WhatsAFile.com my name is Mike and ill be happy to give you some assistance. A docx is a new word document. Its sent from Office 2007 or higher. To cut to the chase if you need to read it you can download the office file conversion utility on the right side of our page, its such a big deal weve actually created a page just for it.

OK. Now the details as to why. Microsoft is moving to an open xml format. Why? Its more universal, and it uses something of a compression to make the files smaller. So you can send them to more people, faster, and they will be able to read them. Hypothetically. In the mean time its caused a mess in the it world.
