What's a .cab file extension

Question: My Hard Drive is full and im trying to get rid some files. I came across some .cab files FILES6~1.cab, FILES_~1.cab, data1.cab, data2.cab, data3.cab #1 whats a cab file, and #2 can i delete them? Thankya!

Answer: .CAB files are windows cabinet files. They are a lot like zip files, and a lot like cabinets. They store stuff essentially. Would I delete them? Well, no probably not since im not sure what they do. That and they probably are not that large are they? What I would do is download Steven Golds Cleanup 4.5 (its free) and run that. It gets rid of all those temp files you have not used in years, and works miracles really.

If you want to open them and have a look inside you can download the trial version of winrar and it will let you see the contents.

Before you try anything you should think about doing a free scan for .cab related registry errors. This will ensure your computer is ready to precede.
