What's a .exe file extension

Question: Girlfriend sent me some photos from her vacation via YIM (yahoo instant messenger), she says they are workable. I get a black screen for a second and then it goes back down, but nothing else. |

Staffer: Matt | Posted: 08.27.09 Answer: After talking with you via email I see that they are .exe files. Exe files are not picture files, and if this is by some chance someone you dont know very well then you should not have ran those files. Ive seen a trick similar to this were hackers send guys or girls photo files that have an exe extension. Example, my photo.exe and what they are really doing is sending them a trojan or similar. So a exe file is not a picture file its a windows installer file. I would be running some spyware and virus scans on your computer if i where you. Before you try anything you should think about doing a free scan for .exe related registry errors. This will ensure your computer is ready to precede. |
