What's a .msi file extension

Question: Running a windows dell installer cd and have a msi file downloaded. Looked up msi and they make motherboards but mine is a dell. Everytime I i try an install it tells me my computer is corrupt.

Answer: Yes you are correct MSI is a motherboard manufacturer, but an .MSI file is a setup or installer file from Microsoft. Its most likely that the file is corrupt, not your computer. So you may want to re download that file.

So basically that file installs something. Its just about the same as an .exe file really. So, to sum it up again. The file is and installer, it is corrupt most likely because it did not finish downloading, and the best option is going to probably be for you to simply redownload the .msi file.
