What's a .zip file extension

Question: Word 2003 not able to open my file halls_2006r.zip I used the how to show extensions article to show me that filename, but it still wont work. What give? PS. Please hurry have to have this for a meeting tonight.

Answer: Not a problem. Welcome to WhatsAFile.com we are here to assist you. Well, zip file is a compression file type. Its kinda like a suitcase, you put your clothes in your suitcase and you can make them smaller for a trip.

If you have windows XP or newer you should be able to extract the file then open it. Im guessing you are trying to open it up from within word. What you want to do is navigate to the file outside of word, using explorer.exe and then copy and paste that file into your documents or desktop where you will then be able to access it from Word.

Side note i beleive you will be able to open zip files in Office 2007 but i could be wrong.
